FootballFormer Chelsea Midfielder Claims Blues Won't Win EPL Even With Mbappe and Bellingham
- Chelsea have been unable to hit the ground running this season under Mauricio Pochettino
- The Blues have registered just three wins in 10 Premier League outings
- The club's disappointing run has them sitting 11th in the league standings with just 12 points
Former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend has played down suggestions from talkSPORT pundits that the Blues could win the Premier League in two to three years.
The west London club have endured their fair share of challenges in recent months ranging from administrative to on-pitch issues.
Their on-pitch struggles include a poor start to the new season, with the 2021 Champions League winners currently sitting 11th in the Premier League standings with just 12 points.
Chelsea have managed just three wins in 10 of their most recent EPL games, with their last outing ending in a 2-0 defeat against Brentford, per Evening Standard.
With Mauricio Pochettino's charges trailing league leaders Tottenham Hotspur by 14 points, there is little hope of them challenging for the domestic crown at the end of the season.
Be that as it may, a section of pundits contend the Blues can actually win the Premier League title in the next two or three years.
Townsend rebuffs Chelsea's EPL title suggestion
However, the suggestion has been objected to by Townsend, with the former Chelsea star claiming the club won't win the crown even with Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham within their ranks.
"Look, they are acquiring some very good young players. There is never any guarantees on young players stepping up," he observed via Sportskeeda.
TalkSPORT co-host Ally McCoist went on to probe if the situation would be different if Mbappe and Bellingham are in the team, and Townsend rejected the idea, adding:
"Of course they wouldn't, no chance! I've seen Chelsea a fair bit this season."
