FootballBallon d'Or: Every Player Messi and Ronaldo Voted for in the Award Since 2010
- Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have won the Ballon d'Or award on multiple occasions
- The duo has also previously been involved in the voting process of the award
- Messi collected his eighth Ballon d'Or crown on Monday night when he beat Haaland to it
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the most dominant players when it comes to the Ballon d'Or award.
The two football icons have won an incredible 13 Ballon d'Ors between them, with Messi being crowned the winner a record eight times.
The Argentine football star was named the winner of the 2023 edition of the award on Monday night in Paris after seeing off competition from a host of contenders.
According to Euro Sport, the 36-year-old was named the winner ahead of Manchester City hotshot Erling Haaland.
The two were the clear frontrunners for the accolade after an impressive year, with Messi inspiring Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar in 2022.
The Mirror reports that the winner of the award is selected by a jury of 100 journalists appointed to vote.
The journalists are picked based on FIFA’s rankings, with one journalist from each of the top 100 ranked nations getting a vote.
However, in the past, players were also involved in the voting process, with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo selecting their choices for the award.
But who did the pair vote for during the period?
A spot check by Sports Brief shows that while there is mutual respect between the duo, the two had a tendency to snub each other in voting.
For instance, in 2015, when Messi won the award, Ronaldo picked Real Madrid teammates at the time Karim Benzema, James Rodriguez, and Gareth Bale.
On his part, Messi selected Luis Suarez, Neymar Jr, and Iniesta.
