  • Lionel Messi is the winner of the 2023 Ballon d'Or award
  • He beat Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to win again
  • Cristiano Ronaldo superfan Speed was not happy at this

YouTube sensation and Cristiano Ronaldo superfan, IShowSpeed was not impressed with Lionel Messi winning his record-extending Ballon d'Or on Monday night.

The Inter Miami superstar beat competition from Manchester City's Erling Haaland and former Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Kylian Mbappe to win the award.

The American social media star was invited to the awards and interacted with some football stars, including Bernardo Silva and Emiliano Martinez.

He was agitated when David Beckham was called to the stage to announce the winner and kept mentioning Ronaldo, although the Al-Nassr striker wasn't in contention.

When Messi was confirmed as the winner of the main prize, Speed went through all the emotions and even did his trademark move - barking like a dog.

The American internet personality will have to wait for another ceremony to celebrate his favourite footballer, Ronaldo, who last won the award in 2017.

Messi wins 8th Ballon d'Or

Meanwhile, Sports Brief has also reported on Messi winning the Ballon d'Or award for a record-extending eighth time.

The Barcelona legend was the favourite to win after leading Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title in Qatar last year.

Messi's closest challenger was Man City's Erling Haaland, who came second and won the Gerd Muller trophy as the top striker.

Other award winners included Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham (Kopa Trophy for best under-21 player), Martinez (Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper), and Aitana Bonmati (Ballon d'Or Feminin for the best female footballer).

American YouTuber Speed meets idol Ronaldo

As Sports Brief previously reported, IShowSpeed watched in disbelief as his long-cherished dream of meeting his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo materialised before his very eyes.

The devoted American influencer, an unwavering superfan of the Portuguese star, had endured numerous missed opportunities to connect with his professed football icon.

However, on June 17 this year, IShowSpeed's deepest desires transformed into reality, all thanks to AC Milan forward, Rafael Leao, who orchestrated their meeting.
