  • Tottenham went five points clear at the top with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace
  • Captain Heung Min Son was among the goals again as he scored his side’s second goal
  • Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had earlier likened the South Korean to Cristiano Ronaldo

Son Heung Min appeared to prove his manager’s comments right as he got on the scoresheet once again in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Friday, October 27.

Ange Postecoglou took charge of Spurs in the summer, and appointed Son as captain to take over from the departed Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich.

Cynics were adamant Tottenham would struggle after the departure of their all-time goal scorer, but that has been far from the case as the North Londoners have somehow emerged as title contenders after 10 games of the season.

And the fact that Son Heung Min has seamlessly transitioned to become the club’s leading marksman has also proven beneficial from a financial standpoint as it has taken away the burden of having to seek a like-or-like replacement for Kane.

What Postecoglou said about Son

Prior to the game against Crystal Palace, the Spurs manager drew comparisons from Cristiano Ronaldo as he talked about Son’s transition.

According to the Australian, Son was taking after the Real Madrid legend, since he was slowly moving from the flanks to become a lethal goal scorer.

'I don’t want to make a similar comparison,' he told Sky Sports. 'But you had him at Manchester United, Cristiano [Ronaldo].
"I have always felt that Sonny is such a good finisher, his movement is outstanding. I think he is clever enough to play centrally as it gets a bit more congested than when you are out wide."

How the match went

After a fairly tame opening exchange, Tottenham took the lead via a slice of fortune as Palace’s Joe Ward turned in James Maddison’s cross into his own net.

Son then doubled the lead in the 66th minute after some good inter play between Brennan Johnson and Maddison. The win took Spurs to 26 points, five ahead of their closest rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

As cited on BBC, Palace got one back through Jordan Ayew’s brilliant strike after controlling the ball with his chest, but the goal, which came in stoppage time, proved to be nothing but a consolation.

Spurs’ next game is a tricky home fixture against Chelsea on November 6.
