Over the years, Barcelona's renowned football academy, La Masia, has consistently nurtured and developed talented players who have risen to prominence on the global stage.

Icons like Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, and the current club coach, Xavi Hernandez, are just a few of the notable individuals who began their careers in the club's youth setup.

In recent times, the academy seemed to be facing a shortage of exceptional talent, making it more challenging to find top-class players capable of breaking into the club's first team.

However, La Masia appears to be back to its finest and was again in the spotlight after two of its recent graduates dazzled in the UEFA Champions League, putting in displays good enough to clinch the Player of the Match awards for their clubs.

Barcelona's Fermin Lopez and RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons were instrumental in their respective club's victories in the Champions League.

Lopez, 20, contributed a goal and an assist in the first half, ensuring a comfortable win for Xavi Hernandez's team against Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk, as reported by Goal.

The Spanish U-21 International was on loan last season at Linares Deportivo, and has occasionally popped in to rescue the Catalan club in crunch situations.

Xavi Simons, on the other hand, has garnered substantial attention in the transfer market due to his stellar performances for Dutch Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven last season.

Sports Mole reported that the 20-year-old midfielder became a subject of interest from English Premier League heavyweights Manchester United.

Simons played a key role in helping Marco Rose's team secure a crucial victory, keeping them in contention for a place in the competition's last 16 with a brilliant assist and a stunning goal on the night.

Both young talents' outstanding performances earned them the Player of the Match awards in their respective games and also led to their inclusion in the Champions League Team of the Week, as reported by UEFA.COM.

Lamine Yamal earns a standing ovation

Sports Brief also reported on Lamine Yamal earning a standing ovation from Villarreal fans after his electrifying performance for Barcelona in their thrilling seven-goal contest at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

After playing a role in the Catalans' fourth goal, Xavi decided to substitute him. As he made his way to the bench, he was greeted with an enthusiastic standing ovation from fans - many of the opposition team.
