  • Real Madrid fans are confident of their side beating Barcelona
  • The two Spanish giants will renew hostilities on Saturday, October 28
  • Madrid have won just two of their last five games against Barca

Real Madrid supporters hold high hopes for a triumphant outcome in the upcoming clash against arch-rivals Barcelona at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, marking the inaugural face-off of the 2023/2024 El Clasico season.

Their optimism is reinforced by the designation of Jesus Gil Manzano as the referee for the highly anticipated match on Saturday, further instilling a sense of assurance within the Madrid faithful.

Despite their position at the top of the league standings, leading Barcelona by a mere point, Real Madrid remains cognizant of the formidable challenge posed by their Catalan counterparts, considering Barca's recent track record of securing victory in three out of the last five Clasicos.

Gil Manzano's performance this season

Throughout this season, the referee has overseen a total of 8 matches, comprising 5 La Liga fixtures, 2 European Championship qualifiers, and one encounter in the Champions League, as cited by Besoccer.

In the latest match on October 22, a domestic fixture between Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao, the referee issued three yellow cards and awarded a penalty.

A week prior, he officiated the Austria-Belgium match, where he similarly granted a penalty and exhibited 3 yellow cards, along with a red.

Manzano in El Clasico

According to MadridXtra, Gil Manzano has only presided over two previous Clásico matches in his career. This upcoming Saturday marks his third appearance on the field as the two Spanish football powerhouses, Barcelona and Real Madrid, prepare to clash in Catalunya.

In the past encounters officiated by Manzano, Real Madrid emerged victorious on both occasions, securing a 3-1 win over Barca during the 2014/15 season and extending their record of triumphs when Manzano is at the helm in Clásico matches with a 2-1 victory during the 2020-2021 season.

Why Madrid fans are convinced of a win

The correlation between Manzano's selection as the referee and the results of El Clasico matches has instilled a degree of confidence among Real Madrid supporters ahead of the upcoming game.

An enthusiastic fan, @MayankRMFC, wrote:

"Let's make it 4-1 win this time."

Another ardent faithful, @RMA_Aramis, confidently said:

"We are winning already."

@JovanRMFC added:

"WE WON HAHAHA."

@Elisha_izu, on the other hand, dropped a cryptic message:

"Are you thinking what am thinking?"

@sidgupta0805 cheekily congratulated Real Madrid for winning in advance:

"Congrats on the win. It is a tough match and now got even tougher."

Match Preview: Barcelona vs Real Madrid

Sports Brief also reported that the much-awaited initial clash of the 2023/24 El Clasico season has arrived, as Barcelona prepares to host long-standing rivals Real Madrid at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, both teams vying for the honour and pride at stake.

With just one point separating the two sides after ten league games, securing a victory holds immense significance in determining the trajectory of the season for either team.

For Madrid, a loss on Saturday would mean surrendering their advantageous position on the league table to their rivals. Conversely, this match carries the weight of redemption, as they aim to avenge their dual defeats to Barcelona in the previous La Liga season.
