In tough times, there is no remedy in looking back.
A new chapter begins at Kaizer Chiefs this weekend when Cavin Johnson takes charge of his first game against Golden Arrows on Saturday afternoon.
The emphasis will be on 'new', with Keagan Dolly highlighting a resetting of the mindset and Luke Fleurs bringing a fresh face to the dressing room.
It starts with Cavin Johnson, who will be desperate to get off to a winning start to wash away any negativity.
Before shifting his focus forward, Johnson gave a courteous acknowledgement of his predecessors. As quoted by Kaizer Chiefs, Johnson said:
"I empathise with Coach Molefi and Coach Zwane but, as we all know, that’s football. I want to say that I appreciate their hard work and the solid platform they have left that I aim to build on."
Clean sheets win matches and Chiefs have added some solidity to the backline in the form of Luke Fleurs.
The free agent had been training with Chiefs this season and the club has rewarded him with a permanent two-year contract.
"Results haven’t been going our way lately but we will turn it around through hard work, because there is great talent here and we will get it right," Fleurs said after inking the paperwork.
Senior figures in the squad will be vital to Johnson's tenure, and if he can get them pulling in the right direction, Khosination will be smiling again.
Dolly should breach 150 Premier Soccer League appearances this season and he aims to so while winning. Speaking in the build-up to the Arrows game, Dolly said:
South Africa wasteful in front of goal but few fans present to witness drab draw
Football"We will go there with the mindset of getting nothing less than the three points, and I believe we have the capability to do that. However, we will not underestimate them, we know we will have to work hard, but we are prepared to do what it takes."
Several replacement options
Sports Brief previously compiled a list of the possible long-term replacements for the Kaizer Chiefs job.
Keeping a head coach in charge of Kaizer Chiefs for an extended period of time has been challenging.
Johnson is the eighth appointee in five years and the Amakhosi will be begging for some stability.
