Nigerian international Victor Boniface netted a screamer in Bayer Leverkusen's 5-1 win over Qarabag in a UEFA Europa League meeting at the BayArena.
It took just four minutes before Leverkusen opened the scoring at home through 20-year-old attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz.
But soon, the visitors restored parity after they were gifted a penalty converted by Toral Bayramov in the 16th minute.
Desperate to restore the lead, the home side struck again in the 29th minute after Alejandro Grimaldo found the back of the net off an assist from Wirtz.
Six minutes later, Wirtz registered his second assist of the night after Boniface fired home from outside the area.
He directed the pass towards the Nigerian forward, whose first touch lifted the ball before powering home from about 25 yards out.
It was his 10th goal of the season, and in the second half, Grimaldo completed his brace in the 54th minute of the encounter to make it 4-1.
Edmond Tapsoba of Burkina Faso scored his side’s fifth three minutes later to round off the scoring, Sports Ration reports.
Boniface is Nigeria’s second-most-expensive player
Meanwhile, Boniface has become Nigeria's most expensive player after his impressive start for Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga this season.
The former Bodo/Glimt striker joined the Bundesliga outfit in the summer from Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for a reported fee of €20m.
The Nigerian striker has proved to be a bargain for Xabi Alonso's side, as he has scored seven goals and assisted another three in eight games in the Bundesliga in the ongoing campaign.
