  • Rooney spoke after the game, calling for patience among fans

Wayne Rooney has urged Birmingham fans to be patient after suffering a second straight defeat in the Championship.

The Manchester United legend took charge of the club earlier in October, just weeks after a controversial sacking of John Eustace.

In his first game in charge, Rooney succumbed to a defeat to a familiar face in the form of Michael Carrick, whose Middlesbrough side claimed a 1-0 win.

On Wednesday, Birmingham fell to another defeat, this time losing to Hull City at home courtesy of goals from Liam Delap and Jaden Philogene.

Defeat against the Tigers appeared to anger the family more, as Birmingham were expected to be a bit more competitive at St Andrews.

There was a general feeling of discontent at half time, as boos rang out in the stadium as Rooney’s side trailed by a single goal, as reported on SportBible.

According to Neil Moxey of The Mirror fans around the stadium could be heard chanting expletives, telling Rooney to “go back to America”.

Rooney’s response

There is clear hostility towards Rooney from Birmingham fans as the former Manchester United striker is yet to win them over.

But in his post-match presser, Rooney, whose side have slipped to 12th on the log, insisted the team was on a learning curve.

"There were some good moments but we created problems for ourselves, giving the ball away too cheaply,” he said as per BBC.
He added: "And the really disappointing thing was that, after the second goal, I didn't see a response and I've told the players that. That last 10 minutes or so told me a lot. It was a concern for me and it's something that won't happen again. We have to be patient - and we will get there. At the minute, we're on a learning curve."

Rooney was also asked about his response to the heckles, as he tried to keep a neutral stance by saying it was “part of football”.

Birmingham’s next game is a tricky fixture away at Southampton on Saturday, October 28.

Neville tips Arseal to win PL

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Gary Neville’s take on the Premier League title race as he backed Arsenal to go all the way.

The Gunners were runners-up last season despite topping the league table until week 36 when a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest and City's 1-0 win over Chelsea ended their title aspirations.

Despite Arsenal's impressive run at the top of the table, Neville was consistent in saying they wouldn't win it last season despite having an eight-point advantage at some point.
