FootballMessi vs Haaland 2023 Ballon d’Or Battle: Thierry Henry Provides Perfect Response on Winner
- Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland are locked in a battle for the 2023 Ballon d'Or
- Messi led Argentina to the World Cup, while Haaland won a treble with Manchester City
- Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has shared his thoughts on who should win
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is the latest to give his thoughts on the ongoing Ballon d'Or battle between Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland, and his response was epic.
On October 30, the winner of football's most coveted individual award will be known, and it is expected to be between the two players who had fantastic achievements.
Messi led Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and helped Paris Saint-Germain retain their Ligue 1 title in the year under review, while Haaland helped Man City win their first-ever treble.
Per Mirror UK, the Inter Miami superstar has been informed he is the winner, making it his eighth record-extending golden ball, which has sparked outrage on social media.
Henry settles Ballon d'Or debate
Henry, speaking on CBS Sports Golazo during the coverage of the UEFA Champions League games, provided his thoughts on the ongoing debate, favouring the World Cup winner.
“I mean a lot of people can debate that but for me if you win the World Cup, the way he did it, we can talk about what happened in the final. As a Frenchman, I was a little bit disappointed with how it finished but you can’t say that it isn’t deserved if he wins it," he said.
“A lot of people can claim that Man City players, Haaland and some other players can also say ‘why not me?’ but you can’t say that it’s not right if he wins it. You have the history at times where I’m thinking about Lewandowski, they decided to say there will not be a Ballon d’Or but there was football. Why was the guy not allowed to win his Ballon d’Or?”
Real Madrid's Toni Kroos comments on Ballon d'Or: "I don’t think it’s important"
Football“For me, Messi. Bye. Over,” he added.
The former Barcelona star left Europe at the end of last season and joined Inter Miami in MLS. He helped the club win their first-ever trophy even though they missed out on a playoff spot.
Carragher sends a message to Haaland
Sports Brief reported Jamie Carragher's message to Haaland after dropping a hint that Messi has won his 8th Ballon d'Or ahead of the Norwegian striker.
The former Liverpool star claimed the striker would feel what he felt when he won the UEFA Champions League in 2005 but finished 20th in the Ballon d'Or ranking, albeit amusingly.
