Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given a brilliant answer after he was asked about missing out on the Ballon d'Or award in 2003.

Henry is widely considered to be one of the greatest strikers of all time, thanks to his impressive stints with the Gunners and Barcelona.

However, despite his illustrious career, the Frenchman is among a host of legendary footballers who never won the Ballon d'Or in their career.

In 2003, the former forward was believed to be a frontrunner for the award after an impressive campaign with Arsenal that saw him score 32 goals and bag 28 assists, per Give Me Sport.

His incredible form notwithstanding, Henry went on to miss out on the accolade, with Pavel Nedved winning it ahead of him.

Henry speaks on missing out on Ballon

Recently, Henry was put to task to share his feelings on missing out on the 2003 Ballon d'Or award despite being a strong favourite.

In his response, the former Barcelona star said via Sportbible:

"You can't debate opinions. When journalists are involved in votes, they vote whatever they want.
"However you want to look at it, they vote whatever they want and when you look at the votes in the history of it, not only my year, every year, you look at the first three, and you're like, really? It is what it is. You can't debate opinions."

Why Messi will beat Haaland

Sports Brief has also gave a breakdown of why Messi holds the Ballon d'Or advantage over Haaland in the 2023 vote despite the Manchester City star winning the cup treble.

Apart from the World Cup factor, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner starred in major games compared to the Norwegian's outings in big games in the Champions League.

Be that as it may, Haaland is expected to give the new Inter Miami forward a run for his money in the Ballon d'Or race.
