FootballManchester City on The Spot Amid Claims Everton Will Get 12 Point Reduction for Breaching FFP
- Jamie Carragher sent out a scathing tweet about Manchester City breaching FFP rules
- Carragher was critical of Man City amid reports of a possible 12-point deduction for Merseyside club Everton
- The Toffees are under investigation and are facing points deduction, fines, or a transfer embargo
Jamie Carragher has aimed a brutal dig at Manchester City as he claimed that the Premier League giants would be in the National League if they were to be punished for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
Carragher’s sentiments came amid an investigation into Everton Football Club, who are suspected of breaching the rules.
The Premier League has reportedly suggested a 12-point deduction for The Toffees, who were referred to an independent commission in March after their financial records were reviewed.
According to Sky Sports, Everton’s specific charge has not been made public, although the breach is believed to revolve around a tax matter.
As per the league’s profitability and sustainability rules, a club can only sustain losses of up to £105m in one financial year. Everton recorded a financial loss of £304m.
If found guilty, Everton’s 12-point deduction would see the club reduced to -5 points in the Premier League, as they have only managed to get seven points from their opening nine Premier League games.
Carragher’s viral tweet
On social media, Carragher, who played a large chunk of his career at Merseyside with Liverpool, seemed to suggest a double standard in slapping clubs with sanctions.
According to the former Liverpool man, if Everton end up in the Championship because of the point deduction, then Manchester City should be in the sixth tier of English football.
“The PL want a 12 point deduction for Everton for one charge, Man City are going to end up in the National League North if the PL get their way,” he tweeted.
