FootballDavid De Gea: Man United Want to Re Sign Former Keeper Ahead of Onana's AFCON Assignment

- Reports claim the Premier League giants are now exploring the option of signing De Gea on a short-term deal
- De Gea remains without a club months after he departed Old Trafford
Manchester United are reportedly considering a stunning move to re-sign David de Gea on a short-term deal.
De Gea left Old Trafford at the end of last season after the expiry of his contract with the Red Devils.
According to Sky Sports, the Spaniard was forced to cut ties with United after 12 years with them following failure to agree on a new deal with the club.
The 32-year-old was subsequently replaced by Andre Onana, who moved to the Theatre of Dreams in the summer from Inter Milan.
However, the Cameroonian has struggled to make an impression since his arrival, with his below-par performances earning him criticism from fans and pundits.
Man United want De Gea reunion
With Onana set to link up with Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, reports claim United are considering the possibility of bringing back De Gea to provide cover in the goalkeeping department.
Onana, who had initially retired from international football, is said to have caught United off guard after he recently rescinded the decision.
The Mirror reports that the Red Devils are now looking at bringing back De Gea as a short-term replacement for the former Ajax shot-stopper.
The Spanish star is currently without a club, months after departing the Manchester club.
He was initially linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, but none saw the light of the day.

FootballSports Brief also reported on the reason why De Gea turned down a potential move to Inter Milan earlier this year.
He was heavily linked with the Nerazzuri in August after the departure of Onana, but the move did not materialise.
De Gea is believed to have turned down the Inter deal because of their salary offer of a reported €5 million.
