The DSTV Premiership is a league defined by small margins.

Orlando Pirates' cup form has brought smiles to the faces of the Buccaneers faithful but one would have to go back to August to find a league victory.

Pirates sit 13th on the log but have only played six games due to their cup schedule. Even if they win their catch-up games, they will still be 10 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates dominated possession throughout, having 63% of the ball which translated into 12 shots on target.

Pirates were guilty of poor finishing from the edge of the box, but the best opportunity fell to Evidence Makgopa who headed wide while unmarked from 12 yards out.

Team selection has been a talking point for some Pirates fans.

The overwhelming sentiment, however, has been one of support for the Spaniard.

Riveiro acknowledged the wastefulness but had little complaints about the overall product. Speaking after the game, he said:

"Disappointed with the result obviously. I think our performance deserved more than a 0-0. I have the feeling we are doing things very well and that is something that makes me feel positive. Today we didn't score but that is all we missed, that last touch to the net."

A few victories will steady the ship and restore an accurate reading in the DSTV Premiership log.

Pirates have three league games they will expect to win before Derby Day against Kaizer Chiefs on November 11.

Curious substitution explained

Sports Brief recently reported on why Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo was substituted so soon after coming on for Pirates.

Riveiro explained why he took the decision to replace the attacking midfielder, stating that Ndlondlo had sustained an eye injury.

Pirates will look to make up ground when they face Polokwane City in their next league game at home on Friday, October 27.
