FootballGabriel Jesus: Mikel Arteta Delivers ‘Bad News’ on Arsenal Striker’s Injury
- Gabriel Jesus scored and assisted to help Arsenal beat Sevilla in the Champions League
- The Brazilian striker finished the night substituted after feeling his hamstring
- Mikel Arteta has delivered a 'bad news' report on the striker, though the player downplayed it
Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of striker Gabriel Jesus after he was substituted in the second half against Sevilla last night. Mikel Arteta delivered a not-so-good update on him.
The Gunners beat Sevilla 2-1 away from home in the UEFA Champions League matchday three to move top of Group B after Lens and PSV played a 1-1 draw in the other fixture.
Jesus was the star of the night after providing an assist for his compatriot Gabriel Martinelli to open the scoring just before halftime before firing home from a brilliant corner for his goal in the second half.
He was named UEFA MOTM for his exploits, but his night ended in the 81st minute when he asked to be brought off with an apparent injury and was replaced by Eddie Nketiah.
Arteta provides update on Jesus' injury
Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports after the game, provided an update on the striker's injury, and it will leave the fans worried after the player's performance.
"He felt something in his hamstring. So, we'll see. Straight away, he asked to be subbed, which is not good news because Gabi is not a player that does that at all, so we have to wait and see in the next few days," he said.
The player appears not worried about it and believes it is not something too serious that should keep him out for long.
"I felt something. Let’s see. I did some tests with the physio, it looks not that big, but let’s see. I have a scan, maybe tomorrow. I’m pretty sure it will be nothing," he said.
