  • Kaizer Chiefs and Molefi Ntseki went their separate ways with the season barely having started
  • Kaizer Chiefs are sitting mid-table in the DSTV Premiership and have missed out on two domestic cups
  • An interim replacement has been found but the Amakhosi faithful will want a long-term plan in place

The managerial carousel has been spinning so fast that it is hard to catch one's breath.

Keeping a head coach in charge of Kaizer Chiefs for an extended period of time has been challenging, with interim boss Cavin Johnson being the eighth boss in five years.

This level of instability is unlikely to bring success, and what is needed now is a calm assessment of the situation that irons out a vision of the future.

Here are five managers who could be the men needed to return Amakhosi to the top.

1. Shaun Bartlett

Admittedly he may be a gamble considering his recent flop with Cape Town Spurs, but Bartlett still has that star power that could see him earn a shot.

Bartlett is also a Chiefs oldboy who scored 11 goals in 31 appearances towards the back end of his career.

He was also a Chiefs assistant coach under Steve Kompela and at just 50, Bartlett has time to put his setbacks well behind him.

2. Manqoba Mngqithi

Mngqithi has spent a decade at Mamelodi Sundowns in various positions but is now one of Rhulani Mokwena's right-hand men.

The 52-year-old has had multiple assignments across the country, and added to his time at Sundowns, may have learnt as much as he can at this stage.

Unless he feels tied to Mokwena and Sundowns, perhaps it is time to step out of the shadows and show he is ready to be his own man.

3. Cavin Johnson

Johnson has a better chance than any on this list as he gets the opportunity to audition first-hand.

The 64-year-old has vast PSL experience and was most recently Pitso Mosimane's assistant at Al Ahly, so has been part of a winning setup.

If Johnson can get the Chiefs players to click early, he may put himself in pole position for a long-term position.

4. Mabhuti Khenyeza

Another former Chiefs player, Khenyeza played 26 times for the Glamour Boys, scoring eight goals.

His Golden Arrows team are the closest to Sundowns on the DSTV Premiership log and Arrows play an attractive brand of football, something that is a prerequisite for Chiefs fans.

Khenyza recently criticised SAFA for not being up to speed on coaching courses, showing a hunger and desire to grow himself and the game.

5. Pitso Mosimane

The former Mamelodi Sundowns legend is a household name in South Africa but that aura is not translating well in the desert.

Al Wahda are having a rocky season and if they continue their downturn, Mosimane might have to reconsider his Arabian adventure.

If the unspeakable happens to Mosimane in the UAE, resurrecting the fortunes of one of South Africa's golden brands could be the ultimate redemption.

Sports Brief recently reported on the seven managers Kaizer Chiefs have had in the last five years.

Chiefs are now going back to the drawing board following the sacking of Molefi Ntseki by mutual consent.

Cavin Johnson has now been appointed by the club's officials help to steady the ship on an interim basis.
