FootballAnge Postecoglou: Tottenham Hotspur Boss Sets New Record With Victory Over Fulham
- Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Ange Postecoglou set a new record with the latest victory over Fulham
- Postecoglou has settled well into Premier League life despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich
- Spurs currently lead the standings after 9 game weeks
Tottenham Hotspur continued with their splendid start to the season, beating Fulham 2-0 on October 23 to go back to the top of the Premier League table.
Goals from Heung-min Son and James Maddison on either side of the half were enough to help Spurs secure all three points against Marco Silva's men.
The victory took Spurs' tally for the season to 23 points after just 9 games. This saw their boss, Ange Postecoglou, become the first Premier League coach in history to achieve such a tally after his first 9 games.
Not even the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola achieved such a fete. As ESPN reports, Postecoglou broke the joint record held by Mike Walker and Guus Hiddink, who were able to amass 22 points in their first 9 games in charge.
Walker achieved it while at Norwich City in 1992/1993, while Hiddink did it with Chelsea in the 2008/2009 season.
"Look, it's a credit to everyone. It's a really encouraging start to the season, for sure. Performance-wise, we've been really consistent," said Postecoglou after the game.
The former Celtics boss has already overseen important wins over Manchester United and Liverpool and held Arsenal in the North London derby. With no European commitment this season, their next game is on Friday against Crystal Palace.
Inside Ange Postecoglou's tactics
He was the reject, the very last option. Daniel Levy had approached the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Gennaro Gattuso, and Arne Slot after Antonio Conte's departure, but none were interested in taking up the vacant seat at N17.
But as Sports Brief reported, Big Ange is sitting pretty at the top of the EPL summit, yet to taste defeat.
There have been big wins like the 2-0 against Manchester United and the 2-1 against Liverpool (VAR drama notwithstanding). In the same breath, there have been performances of digging deep to protect a lead (vs Luton) or hold on for a point (vs Arsenal).
