- Neuer, Upemecano and Gnabry are some of Bayern's injured players
Bayern Munich’s victory against Mainz on Saturday, October 21, came at a huge cost for the reigning Bundesliga champions after Leon Goretzka suffered a serious injury.
The German midfielder sustained the hand injury when he fractured his hand immediately after scoring the Bavarians' third goal in Mainz, a win that sent Thomas Tuchel’s men to third on the Bundesliga table with 20 points.
According to GOAL, Bayern Munich confirmed Goretzka has undergone successful surgery following the incident, although the club did not disclose the length of the player's unavailability.
The 28-year-old midfielder's injury comes at a poor time for the German champions, who already have a number of players out, including Manuel Neuer, who has been out since after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Serge Gnabry, Noussair Mazraoui, Raphael Guerreiro and Dayot Upamecano have also been ruled out for Bayern Munich with varying degrees of injuries since the start of the 2023/24 season.
Tuchel laments Bayern injury crisis
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has cried out following the latest injury crisis rocking his team after Leon Goretzka fractured his arm in the victory against Mainz, Sportstar reports.
Tuchel complained his Bayern team was a bit thin after the transfer window closed in September and before several of his players picked up injuries, which has further reduced the strength of his squad.
Manuel Neuer has not made an appearance since breaking his leg in a skiing incident in 2022, while Serge Gnabry has a broken arm, with Noussair Mazraoui, Raphael Guerreiro and Dayot Upamecano all having muscular issues.
