FootballBellingham, Roberto Carlos Show Support to Vinicius Jr After Racism Incident Against Sevilla
- Real Madrid visited the Ramon Sanchez Pizjaun Stadium to take on Sevilla this weekend
- Vinicius Jr. was subject to racial abuse following a scuffle among players
- Jude Bellingham and Roberto Carlos have shown support for the Brazilian forward
Real Madrid's visit to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjaun Stadium was marred by several distressing incidents. In addition to questionable officiating by referee Ricardo De Burgos, the match was blighted by racist chants directed at Vinicius Jr. from a section of the Sevilla fans.
The Brazilian forward found himself at the centre of a late scuffle that erupted among the players when he attempted to retrieve the ball quickly for a corner kick, but the Sevilla players prevented him from doing so.
A mini brawl ensued but was swiftly resolved by the players. Vinicius was then subjected to racial abuse from the away fans.
As reported by Diario AS, some Sevilla fans were observed making 'monkey gestures' towards Vinicius, along with the distressing noises that unfortunately still persist in certain Spanish football stadiums.
Following the game's conclusion, several sports figures, including former Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos and new signing Jude Bellingham, expressed their support for the Los Blancos number seven.
Bellingham, Carlos show Vinicius support
The young English midfielder took to his Instagram to show solidarity with his teammate and friend. He posted a picture of Vinicius with the caption, "Always with you Brother."
Vinicius also received support from the iconic left-back Roberto Carlos, who posted on Twitter, "Racism No."
This regrettable incident, captured on camera, is not the first time Vinicius has endured racial abuse from away fans in La Liga.
As reported by ESPN, the young forward is currently involved in a legal case to hold his racial abusers accountable for an incident that occurred during Real Madrid's visit to Valencia in April.
Bellingham backed to beat Haaland, Mbappe to Ronaldo and Messi's GOAT throne
FootballThe support from Bellingham and Carlos underscores the unity within the La Liga club's dressing room and its strong stance against racism.
Valencia-based newspaper targets Vinicius
In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Valencian-based newspaper Superdeporte has targeted Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr.
The media outlet released a front-page image comparing Vinicius with Pinocchio, featuring a caricature with an exaggerated nose.
The front page lead was accompanied by the title 'Pinochius' as well as a subheading, translated as follows:
"The Madridista recognises that he provoked the fans but lies to the judge in calling out all of Mestalla for racist insults."
