Former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has broken down the major difference between the two teams, and it all boils down to mentality.

The England international established himself as a rising youngster at Arsenal, where he spent seven years (2011 to 2017) before eventually moving to Anfield.

He spent another six years at Liverpool before his stint in the Premier League came to an end in the summer of 2023.

At Arsenal, he won the FA Cup three times, and subsequently clinched the Community Shield thrice as well.

But it was at Liverpool where he enjoyed the most success in his career as he was part of Jurgen Klopp’s team that won the Premier League, Champions League, League Cup, FA Cup and Club World Cup.

Chamberlain on the difference between Arsenal and Liverpool

It is easy to argue that the magnitude of trophies on at Liverpool was larger than those Chamberlain won in North London, and he recently divulged that it all boiled down to a rift in the two clubs’ mentality.

“At Arsenal, we always went into those big games thinking: ‘This is going to be really tough,'” Chamberlain told The Athletic.
“I don’t know why, but at Liverpool, the big games, we just knew we were going to win.”

The 30-year old went on to add that Arsenal at times lacked the killer instinct and were guilty of not having the right formula to win matches.

He added, “We won FA Cups, but we probably never achieved what we should have done.

“We had unbelievable quality. Football-wise we had everything we needed to do the business.
“We were just missing… belief? Toughness? Ruthlessness? I don’t know. Maybe it was a bit of that.”

Chamberlain has since moved to the Turkish league, joining giants Besiktas after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer.

On Saturday, October 21, Chamberlain was on the scoresheet for his new club as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Galatasaray in the derby.

Salah’s brace for Livepool

Sports Brief also reported on the landmark Mohamed Salah hit after scoring a brace for Liverpool in their 2-0 win over Everton.

Two second half goals from the Egyptian, including a swift finish deep in injury time helped Liverpool get back to winning ways and move to the top of the Premier League, at least temporarily.

Thanks to his brace, Salah surpassed Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish in the list of all-time goal-scorers at Anfield.
