According to The Mirror, curtains fell on the football icon at the age of 86, with a family statement saying:

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was surrounded by his family."

However, United put the heartbreaking news behind them to see off the Blades to record back-to-back Premier League wins.

Goals from Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay were all the Red Devils needed to sink the hosts, with Oli McBurnie's penalty rendered a mere consolation.

Dalot dedicates United win to Charlton

Speaking after the match, Dalot, who netted United's winner, dedicated the victory to Charlton.

"When we came to the game we wanted to contribute a little more [for Sir Bobby Charlton]," the Portuguese said via Metro UK.
"I felt with the win we gave a little bit of joy on a sad day. This is the contribution we could have today and give to the family. We are one family at United," he added.

Charlton is widely regarded as a Man United great, thanks to his illustrious career with the club, which spanned 20 years between 1953 and 1973.

Man United to offload Sancho

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Manchester United resolving to offload Jadon Sancho ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Sancho has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford following his row with United boss Erik ten Hag.

The winger fell out with his manager after he publicly criticised him when he was dropped from the squad that faced Arsenal in September.
