- Harry Maguire has endured a frustrating few months at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag
- The centre-back had fallen out of favour prior to his EPL start against Sheffield United
- The ex-United skipper went on to have an outstanding performance vs the Blades to win MOTM
Harry Maguire was almost reduced to tears after he was crowned the winner of the Man of the Match award following Manchester United's victory over Sheffield United.
The Red Devils silenced the Blades 2-1 at Bramall Lane on Saturday, October 21, to continue with their resurgence after a disappointing start to the new season.
According to Metro UK, Scott McTominay opened the scoring for United in the 28th minute before Oli McBurnie levelled it up from the penalty spot.
Diogo Dalot went on to score the winner in the 77th minute as Erik ten Hag's charges stormed to vital win away from home.
However, it was Maguire who was eventually named the man of the match after an outstanding performance at the heart of United's defence.
Maguire gets emotional after winning MOTM
The England international was almost overcome with emotions during his wholesome post-match interview shortly after getting the honour.
Sportbible reports that the centre-back was named the Man of the Match after a difficult few months at Old Trafford that culminated in him getting stripped of the captaincy.
Maguire went on to lose his starting spot under Ten Hag, with the Dutchman often overlooking him in team selection.
The former Leicester City star was largely impressive at Bramall Lane as he recorded three clearances and three blocks, as well as a pass accuracy of 82 per cent to win MOTM.
Maguire explains failed West Ham move
Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Harry Maguire explaining his decision to stay at Manchester United and not move to East London despite an agreement reached between clubs during the summer.
He cited a lack of personal agreement as the reason for the collapsed move, adding that United were happy for him to stay and fight for his place in the team.
