Three talking points from the Premier League
FootballErling Haaland Ends Dry Spell with Rare Type of Goal for Man City in Win Over Brighton
- Erling Haaland was back amongst the goals for Manchester City
- The Norwegian produced a lovely strike to give the Citizens a 2-0 lead against Brighton on Saturday
- This was only the second time he has scored a goal from outside the box for Man City
Erling Haaland scored a goal that was quite rare by his nature as Manchester City bounced back to winning ways against Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 23-year-old is one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players since last season, when he scored an impressive 36 league goals as his side went on to win a continental treble.
He is the leading goal scorer this season, but before the Brighton game, he was going through somewhat of a rut by his standards as his last strike was on September 23 against Nottingham Forest.
But his brief dry spell in front of goal came to an end, when he scored City’s second goal against Brighton in the first half on Saturday.
The goal was quite significant in terms of repelling some criticism Haaland has faced in recent months over the nature of his goals.
Skeptics have argued that the former Borussia Dortmund man tends to score tap-ins , something that has earned him the reputation of being a lethal goal-poacher.
But there was nothing simple about his goal against the Seagulls, as his strike from the edge of the box once again showed his versatility in finding the net.
Notably, this was only the second time Haaland has scored from outside the box as a Manchester City player.
To put things to perspective, he has scored 61 goals for the Cityzens, with his other goal from outside the box coming against Wolves more than a year ago (September 17 2022).
How the game went
Despite going two goals down, Brighton players still had fight in them as they pulled a goal back through substitute Ansu Fati.

FootballCity then went down to 10-men after Manuel Akanji was shown a second yellow card for a professional foul, but the home side held on for the win.
Salah hits another milestone
Sports Brief also reported on the unique milestone Mo Salah clocked thanks to his brace for Liverpool against Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Two second-half goals from the Egyptian, including a swift finish deep in injury time helped Liverpool get back to winning ways and move to the top of the Premier League, at least temporarily.
Thanks to his brace, Salah surpassed Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish in the list of all-time goal-scorers at Anfield.
