- The Egyptian hit a unique milestone with his brace for the Reds in the Merseyside derby
- Liverpool went top of the table, at least temporarily, with the 2-0 win
Mohamed Salah surpassed two Liverpool legends in a unique chart as his brace helped Liverpool win 2-0 in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, October 21.
Two second half goals from the Egyptian, including a swift finish deep in injury time helped Liverpool get back to winning ways and move to the top of the Premier League, at least temporarily.
Despite the local nature of the clash, Liverpool were heavy favourites to win it, and the odds further shifted to their favour in the 37th minute after Everton’s Ashley Young was given his marching orders.
The former Man United man emerged with a careless tackle on Luis Diaz, giving the referee little choice but to reduce the visitors to 10 men.
Liverpool dominated Sean Dyche’s side from then onwards, and eventually made their dominance count in the 75th minute as Liverpool was given a penalty from Michael Keane’s handball.
Up-stepped Salah, who made no mistake from 12 yards for his sixth goal of the campaign.
There was surely no way back for Everton, who were on the back foot since they were reduced to 10 men. During a rare attack late in the game, they were caught on the break, with Luis Diaz setting up Salah for another easy finish to make it 2-0.
As cited on BBC, Salah’s second goal took him to 201 league goals, but that was not the only milestone he achieved on Saturday afternoon.
Thanks to his brace, Salah surpassed Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish in the list of all-time goal scorers at Anfield.

Trent Alexander Arnold accident
Sports Brief also reported on Trent Alexander Arnold’s recent car accident which happened hours before the Merseyside derby.
Trent was reportedly driving on a very wet road in his £90,000 black Range Rover near Knutsford, Cheshire.
Things took a sudden turn for the worse, quite literally, as the 25-year old had to suddenly make a sharp turn to avoid colliding with a high-voltage power unit. He ended up crashing into a BMW instead.
