Lionel Messi's sons are hoping to step into the footprints of their father as they continue their development at Inter Miami's academy, which he joined in July.

Messi has three sons with his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo - Thiago (10), Mateo (8) and Ciro (5), all of whom were born during his time with former club FC Barcelona.

The first two began their football journey, having previously enrolled at Paris Saint-Germain academy and moved to Inter Miami when their father joined the club.

The eldest son joined the U12 group and debuted in a friendly against Westerlo weeks ago, while Mateo has been filmed showing glimpses of skills with his age group.

Thiago Messi scores for Miami academy

Thiago was gradually integrated with the U12 and only played part minutes in his first game against Westerlo, but did not get on the scoresheet despite his team winning 2-0.

The young Miami team won their most recent training game 2-0, and this time, the son of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner got on the scoresheet with a blast of a goal.

His teammates immediately surrounded him to celebrate the goal. He wore the number 10, also worn by his father and outfitted by Adidas.

The clip of the goal made it to social media, and fans applauded the effort, claiming the kids were following in the Argentina captain's footpath. The 36-year-old was in attendance alongside Sergio Busquets.
