Former Chelsea defender, Ryan Bertrand claims Chris Hughton is the best person to turn things around in the Black Stars team.

The four-time African champions suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since Hughton took over as coach of the Ghana national team.

The Black Stars lost to Mexico and the United States in friendlies during the October international break, leaving fans worried ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Bertrand, who is in Ghana for sporting reasons backed the ex-Brighton manager to get the team ready before AFCON.

"First of all, in international or domestic football, everything can happen. There is some stage you can not be in the best form and end up doing well and sometimes you can be in great from and end up under-achieving," he told 3 Sports, as quoted by ghanasoccernet.com.
"I think the last two tests in the USA and Mexico were good tests, different style of football and different opposition and I feel they are in great hands under Chris Hughton and I am sure by the time the tournament comes up, they would be ready," he added.

Ghana will engage Madagascar and Comoros next month in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The team will assemble in December to start preparations for the tournament in Ivory Coast, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group B alongside seven-time champions Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique, as reported by modernghana.com.

The West African football powerhouse have not won the Nations Cup since 1982 despite reaching the finals three times in the last four decades.
