- The Special One has shed light on his management style and how he keeps players in check
Jose Mourinho has opened up on his management style and how he keeps players in check. He also explained the most important football metric, which is to win.
Mourinho is one of the greatest and most successful football managers of all time, winning 26 major trophies in his career at every club he has managed, except for Tottenham Hotspur.
He is currently at AS Roma, where he has guided the team to back-to-back European finals, winning the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League in his first year. However, he lost the Europa League in his second season.
Mourinho explains his management style
The Special One shot to fame after he guided Porto to Champions League glory in 2004 and is widely regarded as one of the best motivators in football.
Speaking to Gameplan A, the Portuguese disclosed the most important thing in football.
“This is the most important thing in our sport, which is football: It’s to win – it’s not to sell philosophy. It’s not to sell excuses. It’s to be a winner,” he said.
The 60-year-old did not limit his scope of winning to titles alone but claims that individual objectives, if reached, are also a win.
Jose is reputable for being tough on his policies and has managed some of the best players in the world, including Cristiano Ronaldo. He admits you must be firm regardless of who you are dealing with.
“You have to have a strong personality to say, ‘okay, I am the boss, I make the decisions. This is not negotiable’” he said.

Football“The team is the most important thing. Even if you are the best player in the world. A player with the biggest status in the club: the team is the most important thing.”
“As a coach, you have to be soft and strong. Maybe soft is not the right word – you have to be open, very open to what the players think, to what the players feel – and not just to stick to your own ideas because you work with a group,” he added.
His time at Roma could come to an end when his contract expires in June 2024. He has openly discussed managing in Saudi Arabia, having rejected offers in the summer. As per Goal, a club in the Pro League is ready to offer him a two-year contract worth £104 million.
Mourinho's comment on Europa League final
Sports Brief reported on Jose Mourinho's audacious claim about last season's Europa League final as his team regrouped for another attempt to win the competition.
Roma lost the final under controversial conditions to Sevilla in Budapest last season, and the Special One insists his team did not lose the game and he'd continue to hold on to that claim.
