Former Chelsea and England defender, Ryan Bertrand has arrived in Ghana for a partnership with Koppan Sports Agency.

The 2012 UEFA Champions League winner was given a special traditional welcome with fans trooping to the Kotoko International Airport to meet the former Blues defender.

Bertrand played alongside Ghana legend Michael Essien during his time at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea.

The 34-year-old is in Accra for a series of activities, including a charity event.

Bertrand's visit is also aimed at nurturing Ghana’s football industry, fostering young talents, and imbuing them with the wisdom earned from a career.

"I feel really good, really amazing to finally come here [Ghana]. It is my first time touching down in the country. At my free time now, it is good to come here. I think the world can see, that Ghana has some great talents," said Bertrand following his arrival, as quoted by Citi Sports.
"We are here to see the youth in Ghana, engage with charity with my partners [Koppan Sports Agency], feel good, and spread good vibes. It is important to inspire the youth with what we have achieved in the past," he added.
"I am very interested in establishing sports with a purpose here in Ghana, so it’s gonna be interesting in the next few days."

The former England left-back spent nine years at Chelsea, where he won one FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the Europa League.

He later joined Southampton before last playing for Leicester City, as reported by Transfermarkt.

Kofi Kingston builds library in Ghana

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that World Wrestling Entertainment star, Kofi Kingston received a heroic welcome following his return to Kumasi after many years in the United States of America.

The former WWE champion arrived in his hometown of Atwima Takyiman in the Ashanti Region, where he has built an ultra-modern library and digital centre.

The facility was started last year and completed in 2023, as he returned home to commission it for use by students and the people of the Ashanti Region.
