  • Chelsea were close to signing Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus from Ajax last summer
  • The Blues had agreed on personal terms with him but he then joined West Ham United
  • Kudus' agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch has now opened up on why a Blues move failed

Chelsea were one of the busiest clubs in the last window but failed to land one player, despite reaching an agreement on personal terms. His agent has now revealed why.

The Blues have been the biggest spender in the transfer market since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over the club and spent over £1 billion on incoming transfers.

They also overhauled their squad in the summer, leading to the departure of many first-team stars, including Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, and academy star Mason Mount - all of whom joined Premier League clubs.

Kudus' agent explains failed Chelsea move

As per The Athletic, the Blues had shown interest in Mohammed Kudus and contacted Ajax over a potential deal, but nothing concrete came of this.

The Ghanaian's agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch told RMC Sport why the move never materialised.

"We reached an agreement with Chelsea; we agreed contractually with Chelsea, but the deal did not happen. He spoke with the coach [Mauricio Pochettino], but in the end, it didn't happen. It was not done because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax," she said.

Mendelewitsch added that the London club snowballed with an offer of less than €20mil, below the player's valuation, and never followed up on it after the first rejection.

"Chelsea did this to lots of players this summer with very low offers to clubs, knowing that they would not be accepted. The truth is that they were completely taken by the transfer of Caicedo, which mobilised all their energy," he added.

After rejecting Brighton's approach, the 22-year-old joined West Ham for €44.5mil. Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City for £45mil instead.

Rival fans troll Caicedo

Sports Brief previously reported on Moises Caicedo being trolled by rival fans after the British record signing conceded a late penalty while his team was chasing an equaliser.

His cameo in the game was not impressive as he continued to settle in. However, that was a meal for the rival fans who showed no mercy for the 21-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder.
