  • Victor Osimhen unfortunately limped off injured in Nigeria's 2-2 friendly draw with Saudi Arabia
  • Osimhen was Serie A's top goalscorer last season as Napoli's won their first Scudetto since 1990
  • The Nigerian is to be out for roughly 40 days as he recovers from what doctors call a 'medium' strain

The curse of the international window has struck again.

Napoli will be scrambling to fill a Victor Osimhen-shaped void in their attacking plans for the next month.

The Nigerian finisher hobbled off the pitch during his country's 2-2 draw with Saudia Arabia, with doctors stating on Tuesday the extent of the injury.

The club stated that Osimhen suffered a 'medium-grade lesion of the biceps femoris of the right thigh', an injury that can see a player back on the pitch in six weeks.

In that window, Napoli have two crucial Champions League games against Union Berlin as well as a visit from AC Milan, among others.

Rudi Garcia will hope Osimhen is back by the beginning of December as Napoli face Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus in the space of 10 days.

Former Torino and West Ham forward, David di Michele gave his thoughts on Osimhen's loss to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. Il Napolista quoted Di Michele as saying:

"The game with the Nigerian is certainly different than if you put one between Raspadori and Simeone. Osimhen attacks depth like the other two don't, without him you can't stretch the opposing team."

Across last season, Osimhen averaged 4.63 shots per 90 minutes, with almost 40% of those being on target, as listed by FBRef.com.

Other notable numbers from last season, apart from his 26 goals, is his 2.81 Shot Creating Actions (SCA) per 90 minutes and his 69% pass completion.

To date, Osimhen has scored six goals in eight Serie A matches, notching up 14 SCA's.

Osimhen received questionable treatment

Sports Brief recently reported on how Nigerians protested against Napoli's treatment of the Super Eagles star.

Osimhen was trolled by the club in a video after he missed what could have been a winning penalty against Bologna.

Osimhen was not the only one the protesters were fighting for, doing it for other Nigerian athletes across the globe.
