  • Lyle Foster, Percy Tau, Lebo Mothiba and Mihlali Mayambela are expected to feature in key games

National pride will be less concentrated but still evident.

South Africa's leading lights will resume their day jobs when they line up for their clubs this coming weekend.

From preparations for post-season runs, bottom-of-the-table scraps or taking on Europe's elite, a South African has a small part to play.

1. Percy Tau - Al Ahly vs Simba SC

The ambitious beginnings of the African Football League will be witnessed in Tanzania.

Al Ahly travel to Simba SC for a Friday kickoff. The teams last met in the 2021 CAF Champions League group stage, with each leg ending in a 1-0 win for the hosts.

Al Ahly have been in goalscoring form, however, with 17 goals in their last five matches. Neither will want to slip as the winner of the inaugural competition stands to earn $4 million in prize money.

2.Lebo Mothiba - RC Strasbourg vs Paris St Germain

Lebo Mothiba gets the sternest test of the weekend against European elites.

RC Strasbourg coach Patrick Vieira has alternated between Mothiba and Emmanuel Emegha, with Mothiba getting his second goal of the season against Montpellier in mid-September.

PSG have not been in the finest of form, and with their stars having been away on international duty, Mothiba should be in a disruptive mood.

3. Lyle Foster - Burnley vs Brentford

Foster had a blunt performance against Eswatini, then had little to do as he came on as a substitute in Abidjan while Bafana Bafana were clinging on.

Brentford are his next opponents in the Premier League, and Foster will be hoping to get a few shots in early to dust away the international cobwebs.

Burnley are in need of points and could draw level with Brentford if they can leave West London with a win.

4. Njabulo Blom - St Louis City SC vs Seattle Sounders

Bonus South African flavour will be on offer in Missouri as Bradley Carnell navigates Njabulo Blom's St Louis City through the final games of the MLS regular season.

Carnell has trusted in Blom, giving him 25 caps this season and will be integral as the pair push to add more records to this outstanding campaign.

Seattle will not be an easy day out, however, as they sit just six points behind St Louis in the Western Conference.

5. Mihlali Mayambela - Aris Limassol vs Ethnikos Achna

Aris Limassol have made made a good start to the Cyrpus First Division, with Mihlali Mayambela playing a prominent role.

Mayambela has started most of the fixtures this season and scored in Limassol's 6-2 Europa League demolition of Slovan Bratislava, and their recent 3-2 win over Anothosis Famagusta.

Ethnikos Achna are mid-table with two wins from seven, and Limassol will expect to continue their promising form.

6. Pitso Mosimane - Al Wahda vs Al Jazira

No South African weekend is complete without the appearance of their favourite managerial son.

Mosimane's Al Wahda play Al Jazira in the UAE League Cup away from home on Friday.

Mosimane will consider himself a cup specialist and will hope to give the Al Wahda fans something to shout about against a team sitting in the top four of the UAE Pro League.

A manager making waves

Sports Brief recently reported on how Bradley Carnell was taking his MLS franchise on a continental journey.

Carnell has earned St Louis SC qualification for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup in their first season.

The work is not done yet, as they will need to negotiate the playoffs to win soccer’s version of the Superbowl.
