The captain returned to the starting 11 for the first time since the 1-0 win over Ecuador, having missed the game against Bolivia and played off the bench against Paraguay.
Messi scored twice against Peru to help the world champions to a 2-0 win and maintain their perfect start to their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
La Albiceleste have won four out of four, scoring seven and conceding zero goals. At this point, a win feels like a normal thing for the reigning Copa America champions.

The Inter Miami star is enjoying his time with the national team and is a different player for his country. He puts the team first, and despite scoring twice, it was all about the team.
In his Instagram post after the game, he celebrated the team's win without talking about his individual stats, and his caption suggested winning has become a normal thing for the team.

The former Barcelona star also had a record to go home with. As noted by Fox Soccer, he became South America's all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifiers with 31 goals, surpassing Uruguay's Luis Suarez with 29 goals.
