FootballMykhailo Mudryk: Chelsea Star Unleashes Stunner to Bag His First Goal for Ukraine
- Mykhailo Mudryk scored his first goal for Ukraine in outstanding fashion
- The Chelsea forward rounded off the scoring to help his side beat Malta 3-1
- He will be hoping to carry his good form into this weekend's London derby against Arsenal
Mykhailo Mudryk finally opened his account for Ukraine with a stunning goal from way out in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Malta on October 17.
Mudryk, who has shown glimpses of being a world-class player, has struggled to find the back of the net since making the big-money switch to Chelsea in January.
His wait to get his first senior goal in Ukraine colours, however, came to an end at the Ta'Qali National Stadium. Malta had taken the lead through Paul Mbong in the 12th minute. Ukraine restored parity seven minutes from halftime via a Ryam Camenzuli own goal before Artem Dovbyk got the second one from the penalty spot.
Mudryk's goal vs Malta
In the 85th minute, Mudryk put his electrifying pace to use, evading a couple of challenges before unleashing a bender from way out that flew straight past Henry Bonello in the Maltese goal.
The landmark goal comes a few weeks after the 22-year-old had scored his first goal for Chelsea in their Premier League match against Fulham. He, however, sustained an injury in that game and only played 8 minutes in their subsequent 4-1 win over Burnley.
He will be hoping to continue his newly discovered form when they host their London rivals Arsenal this weekend.
The win sees Ukraine leapfrog Italy in Group C standings, though the defending champions have a game in hand despite their 3-1 loss to England last night. Ukraine are now on 13 points, three ahead of Luciano Spalletti's side, whom they meet next month.
