FootballNeymar: Al Hilal Star Sustains Serious Looking Injury As Brazil Falls to Uruguay
- Neymar picked up a serious-looking injury in Brazil's loss to Uruguay
- The star forward left the pitch in tears and could not walk on his own
- Neymar only recently returned from an ankle ligament injury in March
Neymar was stretchered off the pitch in tears after picking up what looked like a serious injury on October 18.
The forward only lasted 45 minutes in Brazil's game against Uruguay in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Towards the end of the first half, the new Al-Hilal number 10 went down holding his left knee after landing awkwardly under minimal pressure from Nicolas de la Cruz.
Possible ACL injury for Neymar?
Sports medicine doctor on X (formerly Twitter), Brian Sutterrer fears the 31-year-old might have torn his ACL, given how his tibia appeared to have popped.
"Looks like Neymar could have torn his ACL. Notice the tibia shift forward and then pop back. Almost always means ACL injury."
Neymar was carried off the pitch before footage showed him using crutches after the game. He was coming back to full fitness after damaging his ankle ligaments in March.
A prospective ACL injury could dampen his hopes of leading Brazil to another Copa America triumph next year.
Without their star player, the five-time World Champions fell to a 2-0 defeat to Marcelo Bielsa's men. Liverpool's Darwin Nunez and Nicolas de la Cruz got the goals to condemn Fernando Diniz to another winless game.
The result saw Uruguay leapfrog Brazil to second place, with Argentina widening the lead at the top of the standings to five points. The Selecao face Colombia and Argentina next month.
Did Neymar party before Venezuela draw?
Earlier, Sports Brief reported on leading Brazil stars, including Neymar, being accused of partying with online influencers before their 1-1 draw against Venezuela last week.

FootballThe Selecao stuttered in the race to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Arsenal's Gabriel Magalhaes got his first goal for his country, only for it to be cancelled late on by Eduard Bello.
It was a below-par performance for the five-time world champions, with home supporters voicing their displeasure and even pelting Neymar with popcorn as the team left the field.
