  • Ghana lost their second friendly in the United States of America
  • The Black Stars were thoroughly defeated by a stronger US team
  • Giovanni Reyna scored twice as the Yankees strolled to a victory

The United States blew apart the Black Stars of Ghana in an outstanding first-half performance at the GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee.

A double from Giovanni Reyna and strikes from Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun left the Black Stars in shreds after just 40 minutes.

Despite making changes in the second half, Ghana could not find a way back as they suffered a second friendly defeat in the United States.

Before the start of the match, coach Chris Hughton made a few changes to the starting XI from the Mexico game, handing Jerome Opoku his debut while starting Manaf Nurudeen ahead of Lawrence Ati Zigi.

The United States got off to a great start after a quick counter-attack on the right saw Serginho Dest and Balugon trade passes before the Monaco star sent in a cross which Reyna fired home past poor keeping.

Gideon Mensah impeded Timothy Weah in the box eight minutes later, leading to a penalty which was cooly converted by Pulisic.

Things went from bad to worse for the Black Stars after another poor defensive display led to Weah taking advantage before finding Balogun for the third.

With five minutes remaining to half-time, the Yankees were awarded an indirect free kick which Reyna cleverly converted for his second of the game.

After the break, Hughton replaced Thomas Partey, Gideon Mensah, and Joseph Paintsil with Samed Salis, Kingsley Schindler, and Elisha Owusu.

Mohammed Kudus had Ghana's only shot on target with US goalkeeper, Matt Turner pulling off a great save to deny the new West Ham United player.

The four-time Africans will begin the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month and it is clear there is some work to do.

Hughton explains Inaki Williams' struggles

Sports Brief also reported on Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton explaining Inaki Williams' struggles for Ghana.

The Spanish-born forward is yet to score his maiden goal for the West African nation after eight appearances.

Ahead of the friendly against the US, Hughton claimed the supply from midfield and the flanks was not effective.
