South Africans have taken to social media to express their displeasure following Khuliso Mudau's costly miss against Ivory Coast.

One of the major highlights of the game was the Mamelodi Sundowns defender spurning a golden opportunity that could have given the Bafana Bafana the win over the Elephants.

Hugo Broos' men scored the first goal early in the game through Themba Zwane, but a second-half strike from Sebastien Haller gave the Elephants the deserved draw.

South Africans were not happy that Mudau missed a huge opportunity that could have given them a win over the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations host.

They trooped to social media to lambaste him.

@Mahlako_1 said:

"Modau was selfish finish n klaar, he should've passed the ball to Mothiba since he was in a better position kodwa ke we know you won't troll him instead you will troll Lebo Mothiba. Double standard"

@LottoCodes said:

"Hero to villain... Now we not sure how to feel about his overall performance."

@Eric80178847 said:

"Stupid decision he should have passed he lacked basics in this instance."

@Brian_ibraim said:

"I know he's a right-back, but our players need improve on their finishing. We could have won this game."

@SaboTom99 said:

"Rulani would be mad as hell if Mudua did that in a Sundowns game. A better player would have scored that goal or pass the ball to the player facing the net."

South Africa's next game in the international break would be their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Republic of Benin, according to Soccerway.

Broos speaks on rumoured fallout with Lepasa

Sports Brief previously reported on South Africa's national team coach, Hugo Broos reacting to a rumoured fallout with Orlando Pirates striker, Zakhele Lepasa.

The Buccaneers star was a second-half substitute in the goalless draw against Eswatini on October 13 but withdrew ahead of the friendly tie against Ivory Coast.

Lepasa has been a regular under the Belgian for over 12 months and is one of Broos' trusted forwards alongside Lebo Mothiba and Burnley striker, Lyle Foster.
