FootballRasmus Hojlund Downplays Comparisons to Man City Ace Erling Haaland With Classy Statement
- Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund has downplayed comparisons to Erling Haaland
- The Danish striker joined Man United from Atalanta for an initial £64m in the summer
- His club will come up against Haaland’s Manchester City in the EPL later in the month
Rasmus Hojlund has declared it is still 'too early' for people to draw comparisons between himself and Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland.
The Dane’s remarks comes amid an interesting comparison that has come up in recent months after he joined Manchester United from Atalanta.
Comparisons have mainly stemmed from Hojlund’s physical similarities to Haaland, with his playing style and name also similar to his Man City counterpart.
Many expected Hojlund to take after Haaland, but it would always be difficult considering the Norwegian’s electric start to life with the Premier League champions.
In an interview with TV2Sport, the Man United ace opened up about the comparisons as he hailed the Man City goal machine as being 'in a league of his own'.
"I hope that one day I can reach [Haaland's] level, but right now, I think it is too early," he said as cited by Sportskeeda.
"Erling is in any case the world's best striker, if not the world's best footballer. I don't really want to be compared to him, but I hope that one day I can be like him. Who knows? I am only 20 years old. We will have to see what it can end up with."
Hojlund’s stats at Man United
Hojlund became Man United’s most expensive under-21 signing after the Red Devils gave Atalanta £64mil for his services.
Unlike Haaland, the Dane has not made a blistering start to life in the Premier League but has come through for Erik ten Hag’s side at crucial moments.
According to Transfermarkt, he has bagged three goals in eight games for the Red Devils across all competitions.
