Awoniyi was in a celebratory mood despite his injury, as he took time to celebrate his son's birthday on Monday, October 16.

The Super Eagles striker shared a picture of him and his son on his Instagram page coupled with a wonderful caption.

"My guy is 3," he wrote.
"Happy birthday 🎉🎂🎊 He’s always with you 😍❤️. Continue to grow in His mercy and glory."

The former Liverpool striker has returned to training after a short spell on the sidelines, according to a report by the Punch.

It is yet to be confirmed if he will be up for selection for Nottingham Forest's next game in the English Premier League against newly promoted side Luton Town.

Awoniyi scores as Nigeria thrash Sao Tome

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigeria have sealed qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Ivory Coast in January following a 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe in the final qualifying match.

Heading into this fixture, Jose Peseiro's side had confirmed their place in next year's Africa Cup of Nations tournament, but they needed to guarantee top spot in Group A of the qualifying series.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen netter a hat trick while Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi and Samuel Chukwueze all also registered their name on the scoresheet.
