Joao Cancelo has taken a swipe at his critics with his goal celebration after netting in Portugal’s emphatic 5-0 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The Barcelona defender has been in the eye of the storm recently after being criticised for apparent rudeness towards fans who constantly asked him for autographs.
According to GOAL, Cancelo responded when quizzed on his goal celebrations, stating it was a response to his critics who labelled him 'unprofessional' following the incident in Barcelona.
"My celebration was a slap in the face to those who criticise me. I was always professional. There are those who sell a bad image of me, but it is not true. I have a good heart, and I do everything I can to help Portugal."
Cancelo celebrated his goal against the Eastern Europeans towards the corner flag by sliding on his knees with his arms splayed, days after the autograph controversy in Spain.
