Portugal manager Roberto Martinez is still in awe of the qualities of Cristiano Ronaldo and has reckoned that the 38-year-old forward is still an important asset for the national team.
The Al Nassr forward has been in phenomenal form this season, scoring a brace as Portugal whitewashed Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-0 on Monday, October 16 in their Euro 2024 qualifiers.
According to GOAL, Martinez has lavished praise on Ronaldo for his dominant performance and insisted that he will look to make the most of his experience to achieve international glory for Portugal.
"Cristiano Ronaldo has maximum experience, and we need to use that. We are very clear about what we need to do to get the best out of each player for the team."
Ronaldo’s brace against Bosnia marks the 12th season in his career where the Portugal international has scored at least 40 goals in a calendar year.
Ronaldo hurt by pitch invader
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo did not appear to be happy after being startled by the fan approaching him from behind in Portugal’s impressive win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sports Illustrated reports.
The 38-year-old forward initially seemed to be physically hurt as he was seen limping. However, he was able to continue playing until the 65th minute, when he was substituted.
Additionally, the video looked to indicate that the pitch invader—or perhaps one of the five security guards who rushed quickly to remove him—may have stepped on Ronaldo's foot.
