Cristiano Ronaldo achieved his 1,100th combined career goal for club and country during Portugal's UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, October 16th.

A rampant Portugal side ran riot, with their captain Ronaldo opening the scoring inside five minutes from the spot at the Bilino Polje in Zenica.

The strike marked the 38-year-old's 858th goal for club and country and 1,100th goal contribution.

A quarter of an hour later, the Al-Nassr star extended his record with another goal, increasing Portugal's lead for the evening.

This goal was his 127th for the national team, coming in his 203rd match, and his ninth goal in seven appearances within the ongoing Euro 2024 qualifiers, per Sportskeeda.

Roberto Martinez's side complemented Ronaldo's brace with three additional goals before the halftime whistle, courtesy of Bruno Fernandes, Joao Cancelo, and Joao Felix.

According to Eurosport, Portugal had already secured their spot at Euro 2024 in Germany with a 3-2 home victory over Slovakia on Friday.

Holding a commanding 5-0 lead at halftime in Zenica, the Selecao are well on their way to their eighth consecutive win, maintaining their flawless qualification campaign.

Ronaldo overtakes Haaland as the top scorer in 2023

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo usurped Erling Haaland as the outright top scorer in 2023 following his brace against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, October 16.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored the game's breakthrough with a penalty five minutes into the match before elegantly lofting the ball past the Bosnian goalkeeper in a swift counterattack, with assistance from Barcelona's Joao Felix, to secure his second goal.

With these accomplishments in the first half, Ronaldo's total goals in the calendar year now stand at an impressive 40 in 43 appearances for both club and country, surpassing Haaland in the process.

Sports Brief also reported that Fans erupted with joy as Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed Erling Haaland as the leading goalscorer for both club and country in 2023.

Ronaldo netted his 39th and 40th goals of the year for Portugal during their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zenica, leaving Haaland in his wake.

The Manchester City superstar had failed to find the net as Norway suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Spain.
