Zlatan Ibrahimovic knows no bounds when throwing shots and has delivered one to Americans after Lionel Messi moved to Major League Soccer with Inter Miami.

Messi joined David Beckham's co-owned Inter Miami after running down his Paris Saint-Germain contract and decided to try a new adventure outside of Europe.

He has enjoyed a bright start to life with the Vice City club and helped it to its first-ever trophy - winning the inaugural Leagues Cup and being named the best player and top scorer.

As reported by CBS Sports, the club lost the US Open Cup final and missed out on playoff spots, two situations that could have been avoided if Messi had not been injured and missed most of the games after the September international break.

Ibrahimovic aims swipe at Americans

Retired footballer Ibrahimovic has taken a hit at the American population after the Argentina captain moved to their league as possibly the biggest star to play in the country.

Speaking at the Trento Sports Festival, organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport, via DiMarzio, he joked at Americans' lack of interest in football (soccer).

"Now that Messi is here, they can go back to watching football," he said.

The former Swedish international played in the MLS for LA Galaxy for two years between 2018 and 2019 after leaving Manchester United. He returned to Europe with AC Milan in 2020. He scored 52 goals in 56 games for the California-based club.

He could be right anyway; the World Cup winner's presence has seen a spike in viewership, selling out every stadium he has played in, with a host of American celebrities coming to watch games.

LeBron James acknowledges Messi's greatness

Sports Brief reported that LeBron James acknowledged greatness after watching Messi's Inter Miami debut against Cruz Azul live at the DRV PNK Stadium.

James was in the stadium alongside other American sports personalities and celebrities, including Serena Williams, Tom Brady and Kim Kardashian and shared a passionate moment with Messi before kickoff.

He took to his social media pages after the game to welcome the 36-year-old to the US and expressed joy at beholding greatness, to which the football superstar responded.
