  • Spain beat Norway 1-0 to qualify for Euro 2024 next year in Germany
  • Scotland also qualified after the victory despite having two games left
  • Barcelona's Gavi scored the winner and seemed to troll Erling Haaland

Spain halted Erling Haaland and Norway's dream of playing at next year's Euro 2024 in Germany after a 1-0 victory, with Barcelona youngster Pablo Gavi appearing to be taking it to the Manchester City striker.

Gavi scored the game's only goal for La Roja to send the 2008 and 2012 champions to the European Championship - and their opponents will have to find another means to qualify.

Consequent to Norway's defeat, Scotland also booked their spot in the tournament, with both countries tied on 15 points and having two games left to play in the group.

Per BBC Sports, all hope is not lost for the Scandinavian country, who haven't been at a major tournament since Euro 2024, as they can still qualify through the Nations League playoffs.

Gavi appears to troll Haaland

It was a frustrating night for the City striker and his compatriot, Martin Odegaard, as both were expected to lead their country to the tournament after fantastic individual campaigns in the last year.

Both struggled throughout the game as their nation's hopes on them appeared to be going bleak and the scorer of the game's only goal appeared to add insult to injury for the striker.

As spotted by Barca Buzz, Gavi shared a photo of himself and Haaland on his Instagram story and captioned it with two Spain flags. His gesture in the picture made it seem he was aiming a dig at the treble winner.

The 23-year-old is in contention for the 2023 Ballon d'Or against World Cup winner, Lionel Messi after helping City to a historic treble in his first season in English football.

Haaland trolls Arsenal fans

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Haaland giving a savage gesture to fans who booed him after his substitution in the 65th minute of City's loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield.

The Norwegian raised three fingers to signify the number of trophies he won last season, while the Gunners went empty-handed despite spending most days at the top of the table.
