  • Siyabonga Nomvethe is not impressed with Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos ahead of AFCON 2023
  • The former South African striker issued possible ultimatums for the team ahead of the competition
  • Bafana will play four matches before the number one football tournament in Africa kicks off

Former South African international Siyabonga Nomvethe has issued an ultimatum for Bafana Bafana manager Hugo Broos ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Ivory Coast.

Bafana Bafana were drawn in Group E alongside the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, Mali and Namibia.

South Africa have four games to play before the tournament kicks off next year in Abidjan.

Broos' men will face Ivory Coast in their next game on Tuesday, October 17, before next month's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The Bafana football legend, Nomvethe in a recent interview, questioned the Belgian manager and urged him to get results in their next four games before the tournament, according to a report by iDiskiTimes.

"If you don’t get the results in these matches, you will be under pressure. We expect you to win so that we can support you," he said.
"If you don’t perform today, we automatically have question marks of what you are going to do at the [Africa Cup of Nations], and our minds think you are going to be doing the very same thing."

The former Udinese striker reiterates that you can't go to the biggest football tournament without winning confidence before the competition.

"You go to the [Africa Cup of Nations] with confidence and wins," he added.
If you go to [Africa Cup of Nations] without confidence of wins, you will end up being confused with your own team selection – you end up selecting players that you don’t need."

South Africa draw against Eswatini

Sports Brief earlier reported that South Africa played out a goalless draw against Eswatini at the FNB Stadium on Friday, October 13.

Bafana Bafana had the freedom of FNB Stadium at times, dominating possession but spending much of the match hovering around the Eswatini 18-yard box.

Lyle Foster, Khanyisa Mayo, Njabulo Blom and Mihlali Mayembela all had chances but left their shooting boots at home.
