FootballLiverpool Star Mac Allister’s Highlights During Argentina vs Paraguay Trend Online
- Alexis Mac Allister put up a masterful performance for Argentina on Thursday evening
- La Albiceleste claimed a 1-0 victory in a game that saw Lionel Messi play off the bench
- It was Mac Allister who earned many plaudits online for his display and not his captain
Liverpool ace, Alexis Mac Allister was likened to Lionel Messi after an incredible display while on international duty.
Mac Allister, signed by the Reds from Brighton in the summer, has hit the ground running at Anfield and is a crucial member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
At Liverpool, he is played in the unfamiliar number 6 role, which is deeper in midfield and something he is getting used to after several games for his new club.
However, this is not the case for Mac Allister’s national side, as he has been entrusted with more attacking roles for La Albiceleste, as Diario AS reports.
On Thursday, October 12, the former Brighton man was in the form of his life as he bossed proceedings for Argentina for large parts of the match.
The fact that Lionel Messi could only make the bench for the game against Paraguay did little to deter his team, as Mac Allister seemingly took up the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s responsibilities.
Playing as a number 10, the Argentine was constantly a threat to the opposition with his marauding runs forward as well as for his 'Messi-esque' dribbling ability.
A highlight reel of Mac Allister's commanding performance against Paraguay was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by @anythingLiverpool:
Despite being a regular at Liverpool, Mac Allister has come under criticism for his inability to adapt to the demands that come with playing as a number 6.
However, Klopp is yet to fully trust former Stuttgart man, Wataru Endo, leaving Mac Allister with no option but to stay in holding midfield for the moment.

Messi argues with Otamendi over armband
In other news related to Argentina, Sports Brief also reported on an 'argument' involving Messi and Nicolas Otamendi during the Paraguay match.
The former Barcelona captain was brought on in the 54th minute, replacing Julian Alvarez, and was expected to don the captain's armband when subbed in.
However, Messi instead gestured to the Benfica defender that he wasn't interested in wearing the armband, with Otamendi practically forcing it upon him.
