Paris Saint-Germain’s monetary woes have persisted as the French club reportedly grapples with maintaining a positive financial record.
Being known as one of Europe’s biggest spenders, the Ligue 1 club has in recent years closed off their books with a substantial deficit.
According to a report from Spanish outlet, Sport, Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s team faced a financial shortfall of over €370 million during the 2022 fiscal year.
To compound their losses, Marca reported the club had spent an excessive €729mil on staff remuneration throughout the 2022/23 season.
La Liga president, Javier Tebas was present at the Festival dello Sport organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport and took the opportunity to address the audience.
In his speech, he lauded the economic model of Spanish football while taking direct jabs at PSG.
La Liga chief trolls PSG over finances
Tebas used the platform to emphasise La Liga’s financial prudence, highlighting recent transactions by Barcelona as a shining example of Spain’s commitment to fiscal responsibility.
He also criticised the Premier League, questioning the 'pace of investment' by English clubs and asserting that Spain preferred not to incur losses. However, the most pointed part of his address was directed at the Parisians.
As reported by Managing Barca, the 61-year-old stated:
"We all know that PSG lost €605M. Perhaps if there was a tournament to waste money, PSG would win it."
This latest criticism will only add fuel to the ongoing verbal feud between Tebas and the PSG ownership and it is likely the French club's hierarchy is already considering its response.
Real Madrid concerned about Mbappe
Are the new-look PSG serious Champions League contenders?
FootballMeanwhile, Sports Brief previously reported on Real Madrid expressing concerns about Kylian Mbappe as the 25-year-old experiences his worst run in front of goal since 2018.
The French superstar recently missed an open-goal opportunity after rounding opposition goalkeeper, Steve Mandanda in the Ligue 1 champions' victory away at Rennes.
RMC journalist, Daniel Riolo dubbed Mbappe 'The King of the Nights in Paris', alluding to his increasing involvement in late-night activities as well as his recent party escapades.
