  • Eden Hazard announced his retirement from professional football early this week
  • The last days of his career were blighted by injuries often attributed to his lifestyle
  • A story has now emerged of when Chelsea told a store not to tell burgers to Hazard

Chelsea went out of their way to manage Eden Hazard's lifestyle during his time at the club and one such measure was reportedly telling a store owner not to sell a particular product to him.

Hazard spent seven successful years at Stamford Bridge and was a fan favourite thanks to his performances, particularly his dribbles, which dazed opponents and delighted the fans.

He left the club in 2019 and joined Real Madrid in a transfer described as a dream move for the player. Per BBC Sports, the Spanish club paid an initial £89 million plus £60mil in add-ons.

The move, however, turned sour and injuries blighted his time at the club. His contract in Spain was terminated last summer, leading to the Belgian retiring from professional football at 32.

Chelsea stopped Hazard from buying burgers

The Belgian playmaker arrived at Chelsea in 2012 after the Blues paid £32mil for his services from LOSC Lille. He immediately hit the ground running and showed his potential.

However, his lifestyle issues and poor eating habits soon started manifesting, reportedly forcing the club to go out of their way to control his intake.

The Telegraph journalist, Matt Law revealed on the London is Blue Podcast that the club told a burger van outside Stamford Bridge not to sell to the player.

He added that Hazard never confirmed it, but the club never denied it. The former Real Madrid star isn't the best trainer, nor is his diet the best - two things many fans have hinged his career issues on.

Etoo's old advice to Hazard

Sports Brief also reported Samuel Etoo's advice to Hazard on his training attitude during their time together at Chelsea under former coach, Jose Mourinho.

The Cameroonian legend warned his teammate he would be forgotten if he didn't train well in two years. It didn't happen that soon but it eventually did occur.

Hazard spotted at Stamford Bridge

Sports Brief previously reported on Hazard being spotted at Stamford Bridge before the 1-1 draw between his former club and visiting Liverpool.

The Belgian spent seven years at Chelsea and was clubless after leaving Real Madrid. It was initially unclear why he was there but it makes sense now.
