Ivory Coast legend, Didier Drogba has shared his thoughts on Nigeria's chances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as the Super Eagles face the host nation in the group stage.
The two West African nations were drawn in Group A alongside Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
Jose Peseiro's side is tipped as one of the favourites to win the competition next year but it won't be an easy ride for Nigeria in the group phase.
Speaking after the draw, Drogba stated it would be a difficult group for both the Elephants and the Super Eagles, according to a report by Complete Sports.
"It is a very difficult group. Nigeria is of course one of the favourites and to have them in our group, it is going to be an exciting challenge," he said.
The former Galatasaray and Chelsea striker is confident that Ivory Coast are competent enough to challenge the three-time champions in the group phase.
"But we are up for it. This is the beauty of a competition like AFCON, so we are ready to take on the challenge and let the best teams of this group and all the groups qualify," he concluded.
The Super Eagles will face Equatorial Guinea in the first game, while the host nation will open their campaign against Guinea-Bissau.
The 34th edition of AFCON will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
