  • Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Venezuela in the World Cup qualifier
  • Neymar assisted Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes in his first goal for Brazil
  • The Al-Hilal attacker has now equalled USMNT legend Landon Donovan for international assists

Neymar is among the best international performers of all time as he ascended to another pinnacle of national football yesterday with his performance against Venezuela.

Brazil were held to a 1-1 home draw by their South American counterparts in the CONMEBOL qualifiers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

The draw ended the five-time world champions' perfect start to the campaign, leaving archrivals Argentina as the only team left in the series with three wins out of three.

Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes scored his first international goal off Neymar's assist, but it was not enough to grant the Samba boys victory in front of their home fans.

Neymar equals Donovan's assist record

According to Khel, the assist for Magalhaes was the 58th of the former Barcelona star's international career, bringing him level with USMNT legend Landon Donovan.

The 31-year-old still has plenty of time to surpass this record, with the closest active international player to him being former teammate and friend Lionel Messi, who has 53 for Argentina.

The qualifying campaign has seen the former Paris Saint-Germain star break records. Per BBC Sports, he surpassed Pele's 77 international goals for Brazil with his goals in the 5-1 win against Bolivia.

Pele pays tribute to Neymar

Sports Brief reported on Pele paying tribute to Neymar after he surpassed the late legend's 77 goals to become Brazil's all-time top scorer with his two goals against Bolivia.

Pele's account, managed by his children after his passing away last year, sent a message to the former Barcelona star to commemorate his new milestone.

Neymar pelted with popcorn

Sports Brief also reported on Brazil fans pelting Neymar with popcorn, showing their dissatisfaction with a home draw against Venezuela, a game they were expecting to win.

As the player was making his way into the tunnel, they threw popcorn at him, which angered him, and he had to be pushed away from the scene by his teammates
