  • Emile Smith Rowe has been linked with a move away from Arsenal
  • The 23-year-old has only started once under Mikel Arteta this season
  • Newcastle is among the clubs reportedly interested in the midfielder

Arsenal’s attacking midfielder, Emile Smith Rowe could be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium in January after falling down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

He has only played 11 minutes of league action this season for the Gunners, who are early contenders for the title alongside Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

In total, Smith Rowe has made just two Premier League appearances, both of which have come from the bench.

West Ham United was initially among clubs said to be interested in the 23-year-old but it now appears Newcastle are the frontrunners to acquire his services.

Northern Echo has reported that The Magpies are so intent on capturing Smith Rowe, they are readying a bid as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Why is Arsenal willing to lose Smith Rowe?

Football journalist, James Benge recently spoke to Charles Watts as he tried to make sense of the speculation surrounding Smith Rowe.

With so few minutes this season, the England international of three caps appears to not be in the future plans of the Gunners, who seem very stable in their second successive title surge.

According to TDR Football, Arteta prefers having a more settled and consistent squad, with a few trusted substitutes coming off the bench.

This has been evident, with the likes of Jorginho and Takehiro Tomiyasu emerging from the bench in practically every league match for the Gunners.

Smith Rowe is only one of a handful of Arsenal stars who will be pondering their future at the club due to lack of playing time.

Jakub Kiwior, Aaron Ramsdale, and Reiss Nelson are also rarely used by Arteta, although Benge believes Smith Rowe is the one most likely to depart in January.

"It’s probably Smith Rowe. I wouldn’t necessarily say that Kiwior’s fallen entirely out of favour, I mean he’s got starts this season,” Benge stated.

Mudryk hits back at Arsenal fan

Sports Brief previously reported on Mykhailo Mudryk’s clapback at an Arsenal fan who attempted to mock him.

He had obliged a supporter who asked for some pics as the Chelsea star was entering the Ukrainian team's bus.

The fan then attempted to troll him by saying, 'London is red' but he immediately hit back with a sharp response.
